Our Ambassador Jevi starts running group for minority women every Sunday!

NEW! Together with our ambassador Jevi Majid, Oslo Marathon is launching FREE running classes for minority women! Every Sunday (excluding holidays) until September 16th, Jevi will take you on a varied and fun running class, adapted to all levels. The running groups will take place on Sundays at 11:00 am at Lia Training in Holmlia. You decide whether you want to walk, jog or run! Follow the Facebook group for registration and updates towards the running classes.

Started running 5 years ago

Our ambassador Jevi Majid (aged 41) from Oslo started running five years ago when she lived in England with her husband and children. For a long time, she had a desire to exercise, but could not afford a membership at a fitness center. Jevi grabbed the only pair of running shoes she owned and set off on her first run, where she out lapped each other. Since then, Jevi has run countless half marathons, marathons and ultramarathons.  Three years ago she moved back to Oslo and continued her running journey.

Jevi has taken part in a number of races since she started running 5 years ago. Here from a running journey with Falke Sport where she ran from Boston to New York in 11 days. Photo: Kev Ellison

A role model for minority women

As a minority woman, Jevi wants to be a motivator and a role model for minority women, and she hopes that her joy for running means that more women will enter the running arena. There are not many minority women who run or train in general, and that is something that Jevi wants to change.

-At times I have received negative comments about what I run in and why I share everything so openly, but I rather try to focus on the messages from women who are inspired by me.

- It is so sad that the focus is placed on clothing and not what I achieve, says Jevi.

Jevi has started running groups both in England and Norway, and on 8 January  the ambassador starts his own indoor running classes for women with a minority background . These must be independent of membership, and are free drop-in classes on Sundays at 11:00 at Lia training in Holmlia.

Jevi ran the London Marathon in 2022, then 1 hour faster than when she participated in 2018.

Focus on mastery and joy

As a beginner, Jevi wants more people to initially only focus on moving, rather than focusing on speed and distance. Gradually, the progression will come.

'Rather think that you are investing in your mental and physical health. Not how fast you move. And think that this is about a long-term investment rather than a short phase that passes. Then it's important that you don't go out too hard, that you feel mastery and that you have fun!

This is something Jevi wants to be a long-term investment and not a phase that passes. Then it's important that you master it and think it's fun!

Send Jevi a message on her Instagram or send her an email to sign up or if you have any questions about the class!
