Further down this page you will find information about the distances you can participate in during the BMW Oslo Marathon. Read more about start times, which pacers you can follow, how many fluid stations you pass and everything else you need to know before your race.

AGE LIMIT

You must be at least 13 years old to participate in 10 for Grete during the BMW Oslo Marathon.

Times are subject to change.

MAXIMUM TIME

Maximum time for 10 for Grete is 1 hour and 45 minutes. 

PACERS

For many people, it is nice to follow a speed controller as motivation to reach their goal.
Our speed controllers have a pennant on their back, and the time the speed controller must follow is written on the pennant.

Based on your estimated finish time, you will be placed in a group with a pacer close to your time.

There should be the following speed bumps of 10 for Grete:

  • 40 min
  • 45 min
  • 50 min
  • 55 min
  • 1 hour
  • 1 hour 5 min

WHY RUN THE 10 FOR GRETE?

The 10 for Grete is a distance everyone can overcome - whether you are an elite runner or a beginner. Run in honor of the queen of running, Grete Waitz.

Grete Waitz was dedicated to preventive health work and co-founded the charity "Active against cancer". Why not join Grete's work for public health? If you run "10 for Grete", you run 10K in honor of public health, people fighting cancer and Grete Waitz herself.

REQUIREMENTS RACING CHAIR 

For safety reasons, you must bring a racing wheelchair to participate in the 10 km race. See the picture below to see which chair this is. Pigging is allowed. 

PRICES

The BMW Oslo Marathon offers a fixed price for registration for all para participants and participants in wheelchair racing. 

Price: NOK 100

MAXIMUM TIME

The maximum time for 10 km Wheelchair Racing is 1 hour and 45 minutes.

GROUP TIMES

AGE LIMIT

You must have turned 12 years or older to participate in  the10K wheelchair racing in the BMW Oslo Maraton.

TENTS FOR PARA AND RACING PARTICIPANTS

To facilitate and make it easy for our participants with functional variations, we have set up a separate tent between the start and finish area that all para and racing participants can use.

To take advantage of this offer, show your participant number marked with para/racing to the guards and they will show you the way to the tent. There will be luggage storage, as well as chairs and tables if you want to sit down and relax before and after the race. 

A map showing the route will also be added here closer to the event, with more information about the organization and accessibility of the arena. There will be access to HC WC, and ramps will be placed in strategic locations to make it easy for wheelchair users to get around.

For the half-marathon there will be pacers who follow the times below. You are placed in a group based on the time you register as an estimated finish time, and will find a pacer close to your time in your group if you are close to these times.

There is a fluid station on every fifth kilometer of the course. As a half marathon participant, you will pass five fluid stations (including the fluid station after the finish line).

WHY RUN A HALF MARATHON?

Running a half marathon can be a big challenge, but is still a distance that is achievable for most people. Half marathons require less training than marathons, and give less risk of injuries. This is the main reason why this distance has become so popular. A Half marathon is also a great distance to try if you aim to eventually complete a marathon.

Why not participate in a half marathon in Oslo in September? By running a half marathon, you will experience the capital in a completely different way, together with thousands of other race-loving people and spectators. The race course will take you past Skøyen, Frogner and Akershusstranda, Aker Brygge, Akershus Fortress, St. Hanshaugen and Karl Johan.

MAXIMUM TIME

Maximum time: 6 hours. The runner must have passed halfway in less than 3 hours in order not to be stopped for round two.

In the marathon distance there will be pacers who follow the times below. You are placed in a group based on the time you registered as the estimated finish time, and will find a pacer close to your time in your group if you have registered close to one of the times below.

ABBOT WORLD MAJOR MARATHONS

The Oslo Marathon is part of the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group, a world ranking that includes over 350 qualifying races in which athletes in nine separate age groups can compete in marathons around the world on a global ranking system.

From 2023, athletes will be ranked according to their single fastest time in a
qualifying event.

Any athlete who achieves the automatic qualification time for their age group will receive an immediate invitation to the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships in 2024.

Runners who do not achieve the automatic qualification time still have the possibility to receive an invitation to participate in the World Championships depending on the full field size and the number of athletes achieving the qualification time.

To receive an invitation, runners must be registered on AbbottWMM.com.

WHY RUN A MARATHON? 

There are over 500 marathons in the world a year. Why not run a marathon in beautiful Oslo? Here you run two laps around the city with start and finish at Rådhusplassen. The trail will take you around Skøyen, Frogner and Akershusstranda, Aker Brygge, Akershus Fortress, St. Hanshaugen, Frognerparken and Karl Johan. You will have the opportunity to experience Oslo in a completely different way, together with other people who love running and thousands of spectators cheering on you.

Participating in a marathon can be a great challenge, both physically and mentally. You have have the opportunity to test your own limits, at the same time as you get a fantastic experience.
The average marathon runner finishes around approx. 4 hours.

WHAT IS OSLOTRIPPELEN?

When finishing Oslotrippelen, or the Oslotriple, you run a total of 73 km by completing the three distances 42 km, 21 km and 10 km during the BMW Oslo Maraton.

To finish you run three and a half laps in our trail of 21.1 km around the city, with start and finish at Rådhusplassen. You start with a marathon, continue with a half marathon, and end with a slightly shorter trip around by completing 10 for Grete. The course will take you around Skøyen, Frogner and Akershusstranda, Aker Brygge, Akershus Fortress, St. Hanshaugen, Frognerparken and Karl Johan. You will have the opportunity to experience Oslo in a completely different way, together with other race-loving people and thousands of spectators cheering you on. 

Participating in the Oslotriple is a big challenge, both physically and mentally. You have a unique opportunity to test your own limits, while you get a fantastic experience.

The marathon has two pools, the last pool starts at 09:30.

Half marathon: 13:30
Half marathon has 6 pools, last pools start at 13:55

10 for Grete: 16:15
10 km has 4 pools, last pool starts at 16:30.

MAXIMUM TIMES
Triple participants must reach the start time for the last group on the next distance to be allowed to continue. If they do not reach this, they are discualified from the Oslotriple.
 
This means that you must have crossed the finishline for the marathon and be ready to start the half marathon before the last group starts, and you must have crossed the finishline for the half marathon and ready to start at 10 for Grete before the last group starts.
 
Participants in the Oslotriple can choose which group they want to start in on each distance.
 
RESULTS

Each participant will get a result on each distance, as well as total time for the Oslotriple.

THE TRIPLE TENT

On the day of the event, all Trippel participants are welcome to use the Trippel tent. The tent is located at the start/finish line. Here everything will be well organized for each individual runner, so they can focus on the race, while BMW Oslo Marathon handles the practicalities. Show your start card to gain access to the triple tent. 

BIB NUMBER PICK UP

The week before the event, you will receive a start card to your registered e-mail address. When picking up your bib number, you must show the start card together with a valid ID.

If you want to pick up your start number before Saturday, you can pick it up in the Expo tent. On Saturday (the day of the event) you will find your start number in the Triple Tent. 

LUGGAGE STORAGE

There will be storage options in the Triple Tent. The participant is encouraged to mark the luggage well with their bib number. Do not leave valuables, all storage is at your own risk.

The BMW Oslo Marathon points out that all clothing and equipment that is not picked up or reported missing within 3 months is donated to charity.

FOOD AND DRINK

There will be access to food and drink in the Triple Tent. Among other things, bananas, water and products from Maxim.

There are also food and drink stations located around the trail, at approx. every 5 kilometers. Please see trail map for locations.

WARDEROBES AND TOILETS

Triple participants can change in the Triple tent. There will also be toilets at the tent.

WHAT IS PARA?

In 2010, the Oslo Marathon created separate classes for people with disabilities, with separate classes for women and men. It was created from the initiative of the blind and partially sighted in Team RP.

A regular feature within the para-classes ever since they were introduced in 2010 is the collaboration between the blind and partially sighted from Team RP and Active Against Cancers team. Every year, Team RP has invited between 30 and 50 sports and cultural personalities to join the race as guides, where the participants and their guide run together to front Active Against Cancer.

INFORMATION FOR ELITE ATHLETES

All elite athletes will receive a separate email with information ahead of the race.

Elite athletes have access to their own tent at Rådhusplassen, where you can store your luggage on race day.

RACE INFORMATION
  • If someone wants to receive their own drink, this must be handed out at Oslo Marathon's drink stations on the course. There must be a person from your support team giving the drink to you. Oslo Marathon does not take responsibility for personal drinks on the course. 
  • It is not allowed to accept gel/distribute gel along the course, but you can wear it. 
  • Please also note that support equipment on bicycles or other means of transport is not permitted on the course. If this happens, the person in question will be stopped by the police.
