Winning marathon men!

Taye Babeker Tirfea won the men's marathon

Taye Babeker Tirfea from Ethiopia was fastest in the marathon distance for men during today's Danske Bank Oslo Marathon. Under great running conditions, he set a new track record for the Oslo Marathon.

The new track record is 2:20:49. The same Taye Babeker Tirfea (M24-34) also won the Danske Bank Oslo Marathon last year. Then he also set a new track record, with 2:21:36.

-This was my best race in 2015. A little sore in the hip, but I am very happy with the race, said Taye Babeker Tirfea right after the finish.

Babeker Tirfea passed a half-run distance of 1:08:28 - and already had a meager four minute lead to second.

In second place overall in today's marathon for men was Norwegian Sebastian Conrad Håkonsson (M24-34) in 2:29:46. He participates in the so-called Oslo Triple - and will at 13.30 today run a half marathon.

Number 3 in total was John Henry Strupstad from Ren-Eng FIK with a time of 2:31:14. In fourth place overall came Stephen Kahiu Mbugua from Kenya in 2:32:45.

SK Vidar coach and marathon expert Jack Waitz believes that the conditions for running in Oslo today are very good.

- Conditions are excellent. There are record conditions during the Danske Bank Oslo Marathon today, says Jack Waitz.

Babeker Tirfea proved that it was a record relationship. The general manager of the Oslo Marathon, Odd Arne Marsteinstredet, was also pleased with the new track record for men.

-We are very happy that it was a track record. We have fast runners to start - and a fast track, says Marsteinstredet.

Today's Danke Bank Oslo Marathon is the 36th time the event has been launched. The final number of participants is not yet clear, but 23,000 were registered before the Children's Marathon. Last year, around 2,000 children participated in the Children's Marathon. This means that the organizer estimates around 25,000 for this year's edition of the Danske Bank Oslo Marathon.
