Sondre Nordstad Moen will celebrate May 17 in Kenya. He starts the day by running the 17th mairaton!

Sondre Nordstad Moen lives and stays in Kenya for several months in a row. He has spent over four months at an altitude of 2200 meters. Here he gets good training. Moen had plans to return to Norway, but it would prove difficult. Now he has to spend a little more time on the African continent. This means that May 17 will be a little different, but it will still be celebrated.

"I will celebrate May 17 with my friend and helper, Nils Forreløkken and his family. There will be a May 17 train, ice cream and toys, says Nordstad Moen »

The corona epidemic has left its mark on the world. Concerts and events have been canceled one by one. The athletics season has also been heavily amputated.

All competitions and competitions have been either canceled or postponed, and Moen's big goals were the London Marathon and the Olympics in Tokyo. Now both are canceled.

The sports club Vidar runner has a number of records to show. Perhaps the most famous is the European record for marathons, set in Valencia in 2017 at the sensational time of 02:05:48. Never before had a European run so fast.

"I did not think about the record along the way, but after between 37 and 38 kilometers I saw that it was possible to manage that time, says Nordstad Moen"

Sondre's record was broken by British runner Mo Farah during the Chicago Marathon in 2018, with a time of 02: 05.48.

Nordstad Moen is not on the side of laziness when he is in Kenya. He trains for the Impossible Games at Bislett in June, and a normal week consists of between 180-200 kilometers of running at different speeds and intensities.

Looking for new personal "best time in Kenya" during the 17th mayoral marathon

May 17 will not only consist of trains, ice and family toys, now Sondre is ready for the virtual race May 17 marathon, where he has set himself a half marathon. He has no intention of taking it as a Sunday trip, this will go fast.

"I have a goal of setting a new personal Kenya record during the 17th mayoral marathon. My record is now at 01:06:11, so I will do what I can to beat this time, says Nordstad Moen »

The race will be held in Moiben, about 15 kilometers from Eldoret. Sondre will start early in the morning with a comfortable temperature of approx. 13 degrees. Moiben is 2200 meters above sea level, but Nordstad Moen is well acclimatized after several months in Kenya.

"I'm really looking forward to attending the 17th marathon. This is a fun concept that gives me a little extra motivation to manage to beat my Kenya record on Sunday, concludes Sondre Nordstad Moen »
