"My Marathon" From five minutes to the Oslo Triple part 2

After the center race in April, Magnus had reached all his goals so far this season. He had run 50 kilometers in less than 4 hours, the city center race in less than 40 minutes, and a new personal record for a marathon in Drammen. Until the Oslo trip, Magnus still had three competitions left, and not everyone has gone according to plan. This is Magnus' way towards this year's biggest goal, the Oslo triple during the BMW Oslo Marathon.

Earlier this year, we heard about Magnus' path from a passionate Chelsea supporter, who only managed to run for five minutes, to an experienced marathon runner. On September 17, the 30-year-old from Oslo signed up for the Oslo trip, and has put several ultra races with good performances behind him.

NM Bergen 2016

During the National Championships in Bergen, the goal was mainly to complete 100 kilometers in less than 9 hours. Over halfway through the course, it became difficult to keep pace, even though he had a good start.

At 80 kilometers there are "only" 20 left and I have to ask myself what it is I do. Why am I in Bergen and run 150 times around little Lungegårdsvann? I must be partially mad. Fortunately, the weather and atmosphere in Bergen city center was impeccable that day, and with lots of spectators and a good atmosphere, I and the other runners were cheered on. When I ran 90 kilometers, I realized again why I love ultra-running. It was just absolutely fantastic, says Magnus.

I fly the last two rounds and finish in 8:59:13 and a 7th place in the men's class! Of course, I was happy to have reached my goal, but was still left with a feeling that this was too good to be true, says Magnus. Unfortunately, this should also prove to be true. 14 days later, a press release comes from the organizer that rounds 95, 96 and 97 were registered twice. The participants therefore ran 98 kilometers, instead of 100, and all of the times were rejected.

Göteborgsvarvet 2016

Two weeks after the NC, Magnus was going on a team trip with Team Stalsberg to Gothenburg, where a half marathon was to be run. Magnus initially had no great ambitions for this race, as it was still early after the NM and the body was not fully recovered. Nevertheless, he set himself the goal of completing in less than 1 hour and 30 minutes. Magnus finally finishes in 1:31:55.

It was a new personal record, but I felt that I got a little bit back for terribly hard work. In any case, it was a nice trip with good teammates, says Magnus

Romerikåsen along 2016

When it was time for Romerikåsen to come along, Magnus was ready to give his best and end the first half of the season in style. The race started promising, even though it was difficult conditions for Magnus, who does not call himself a cross-country skier.

I stuck my shoe in the bog at least twice, fell and sprained a thumb and stepped almost over five times before I arrived at food station number two, says Magnus.

With only 8 kilometers left, Magnus makes a mistake. After a short distance, he notices that he has run wrong, despite good markings on the track. He must turn and run back and lose at least 7 minutes. Magnus finally enters the time 5:18:44, and will be number 11 in total and number 5 in the age group of about 100 starting this Sunday. A good result in and of itself, but it is still somewhat overshadowed by an unnecessary mistake that the organizer says he is alone in doing.

Now Magnus starts the run-up to the Oslo Triple in September. This summer, he has tried to run three marathons in one day, and feels ready to compete on the starting line. He also set the best record on Sørkedalsløpet with a time of 54:55.

That day I will do everything and perform max! This is going to be my day and my big moment! And during the BMW Oslo marathon, it is fortunately quite difficult to make mistakes, despite a poor sense of place, says Magnus.
