Japanese victory in the BMW Oslo Marathon

Yuki Kawauchi won as expected BMW Oslo Marathon 2017 in the streets of Oslo today.

The Japanese ran in to the time 2:15:57. Yuki Kawauchi ran in solitary majesty from start to finish - and received no traction from the other participants.

It was a tired but happy marathon winner who crossed the finish line just outside Oslo City Hall.

-I want to thank the Norwegian people for all the support around the trail. It was fun to run. It was a little weaker time than I had hoped for, but it was very hard to run so far and long all alone, says Yuki Kawauchi, who was in Oslo and ran for the very first time.

Yuki Kawauchi has a long track record as a marathon runner in the world elite. He finished 9th during this year's World Championships in Athletics in London in the marathon distance. He has an 11th place finish from the New York Marathon in 2014. The Japanese has a total of 12 races in two hours and 10 minutes. His marathon record reads 2:08:15.

In second place during the BMW Oslo Marathon today was Frew Zenebe Brkineh from Ethiopia and Sandnes. He ran in to the time 2:26:44, that is well over 10 minutes behind the winner from Japan.

-I'm happy with the time. With the race and second place, says Frew Zenebe Brkineh.

In third place came Andreas Grøgaard from Kragerø and Norway in the time 2:33:20.

And there are great conditions during this year's edition of the Oslo Marathon.

-This is a good day for marathon running. Fantastic conditions and ideal for most people, says Jack Waitz in SK Vidar.

Gular runner Marius Vedvik was the fastest in the marathon distance during last year's edition of the BMW Oslo Marathon. He got the time 2:21:50 in 2016.
