Join Monica out of your comfort zone

By: Monica Gutuen, Ambassador for the BMW Oslo Marathon.

Is it not just right and reasonable that I, who push you, should also push myself? It is easy for us who are familiar with one game, such as running, to say that you have to step in and get over the threshold to become a good runner. You have to dare, you have to be quiet and you have to perform. It's so heavenly easy for us. I mean .. we have been there .. as beginners, and we know what we are talking about. But does it motivate you? Or do we just become like-minded people who are tiring? I know I want YOUR best. I know I WANT to motivate you, but I do not quite know how. Maybe I have already managed to inspire you in previous posts, but maybe you are skeptical. Therefore, I thought I would try a new approach. It's my turn to stay far beyond my comfort zone. A stay you can follow and observe. You may be new to running, but I'm as fresh as you can get me in triathlon.

It started a bit random when I contacted the organizer of the Oslo Triathlon to hear about space for my friend (and blogs of Treningshjerte.no). He had been too slow to sign up and the race was fully booked. But now the Oslo Triathlon had posted a post on Instagram where they gave out 20 brand new places to the first to send an email. I threw myself over the opportunity. First is first, so even though I was standing on a treadmill when I saw the post, I still had to send an email there and then. I think I must have charmed them a bit, because despite some typos and bad sentences, Training Heart got a place. And that's where it all began .. I was offered a separate seat by the organizer .. (gasp!) Should I dare? My God ... we're talking triathlon! Swim, bike and run .. Up with youtube, apply for triathlon. Oops .. Everyone has wetsuits! Everyone has fancy bikes with click pedals and the herb gear! Everyone looks properly trained! I personally have never swum with a wetsuit, nor cycled a stretch without my heavy grandmother's bike with a few gears, running is actually the only thing I have control over. Does this sound familiar? Is it ME who's out of comfort now?

This is NEW. This is deliciously uncomfortable. I feel a shower in my body while I consider whether this is something I dare to push myself on. Suddenly I'm the beginner. It's me who's pushed and I'm the one who is anxious about becoming a system man or looking really stupid along the way. But does it matter? There's always someone coming last, and if it's me .. Does it matter? I rather focus on the feeling you have if you manage to implement. Think how proud I want to be. "YES! I'm signing up! ”

Then came the next shock email: Would you like to be an ambassador for us as well? Poof .. from comfort zone to chaos zone, did they really want me as a representative? For an honor, at the same time as I get completely anxious. I'm as fresh as you can get me. Yesterday I managed the feat of walking on my nose over a spinning bike because I could not loosen my foot fast enough. This is going to be great! Abrasions are tough right? Here I am really in my right element.

But we go for it. It's about attitude, passion, threatening one's soul and will. And we have, right? My biggest wish is that YOU should also dare and go outside YOUR comfort zone and take the step. Do it with me. I look forward so much to the Oslo Marathon, to running side by side with you who dare. You who take the step today and sign up! If I can then you can. The Oslo Marathon has three great distances and there is one for everyone.

And if you need a reminder that we "experienced" are also very "fresh", you can also follow and my path to the Oslo Triathlon. I'll promise you it's going to be an adventure.

So .. are you ready. Should we step out of our comfort zone and make this a remarkable year?
