ASKER SKI CLUB WON BMW OSLO ROLLER SKI

For the first time in history, a longer roller ski race was arranged in the streets of Oslo during the BMW Oslo Marathon. The course was 10 kilometers long and there were 60 runners divided into 6 teams who were ready to start on the spectacular course, including some of the world's best junior runners.

The rules were simple; first place got 1 point, 60th place got 60 points. The team with the fewest points remained the winner.

No one solved the strategic race better than Asker Ski Club with Erland Kvise, Eirik Asdøl, Sjur Kvisle, Ola Tandberg, Ryan Zechel, Maks Zechel, Anders Lervik, Emil Wiik, Simen Løbak, Harald Amundsen, Magnus Skurdal and Ola Kvisle as coach and team leader.

Because even though there were some sections along the trail that were created for roller skiing, the participants also had to work on tram rails, stone slabs and two cobblestone sections. The BMW Oslo roller ski race was thus the roller ski sport's answer to Paris Roubaix.

When asked by the Oslo Marathon about what Kvisle had as a plan for Asker ski club to win the race, he answers the following:

We quickly found out that it was going to be important with extra poles, so we organized parents into 6 different pole items. We were also determined to be as far ahead in the field as possible to accelerate. A scam was out of the question for us.

What does it mean to win such a race?

In team Asker we thought this race was really cool, therefore it means a lot to us to win such a race. I had gone hard beforehand and said that anything but a victory in the team competition would be a disappointment. We had prepared well, and after all we put in all our best to start. The athletes are used to a coach who goes high, not always delivering, so that we actually won was a relief for the undersigned. This was a team winner, and is very important for the team spirit within Team Asker. We see that we can assert ourselves well, and that we are a strong group. That we also win 30,000 to the team was a big bonus. The girls in the group are really ready to show that they are no worse next year.
