5 tips for the Romjulsløpet

The space Christmas race is underway, and with a smoother and colder lead, it might be okay with a few good tips on the nap!

We asked Jack Waitz about his tips for the space Christmas' toughest challenge, the Space Christmas Race!

Spend time getting used to winter running if you have not run much in the winter before. You activate other muscles when you run in winter versus summer, so feel free to take a trip out before the race to test the surface. Also find a place with as good running conditions as possible. Feel free to do some research before the race itself. Bare asphalt is preferable.

2. Choose footwear with a good grip and / or pattern. You can get your shoes spiked at various sports shops, or you can go for the purchase of shoes with spikes. If there is hard-packed snow outside, you can manage with running shoes, but the very latest super shoes that the elite use in marathons may not be the ones you bring out when you run outside in winter.

Choose more thin layers over thick layers of clothing. Dry air layers between the garments are preferable, as well as super underwear. Synthetic or wool. If it's not too cold, run in super underwear and a thin jacket with windbreaker material. If you are going to run a longer distance, it requires more of you, and the most important thing is that you are warm on your feet, hands and head. Much of the heat loss disappears from the head, so feel free to wear a hat if it is minus degrees outside. Look at the temperature, but also keep in mind that you get hot when you run, so do not dress too hot. Rather be a little cold at the start. If you can avoid it, do not run when it is freezing outside unless you are used to it. After all, you have many days to complete the race, so if it is under 18 minus, feel free to choose another day to complete the race. And find the clothes well in advance so everything is ready.

Eat at least 2 hours before you go out, and relate to what you are used to eating. Consider a drinking belt / bag / vest if you are going to run a half marathon / marathon.

5. Do not start fast hard. Have a realistic goal, and be rather careful at the start of the race. Are there smooth conditions, shorten the stride length, and get the body's center of gravity slightly forward.

And good luck!
