5 tips for you who are going to run a half marathon

Last year's winner in the half marathon, Marius Vedvik, is once again on the starting line to run 21 km during this autumn's BMW Oslo Marathon. Here are his tips for those who are going to run a half marathon this fall.

  1. Have gradual progression in the training and do not overdo the training in the last weeks before the competition. If you have run 60 km a week through the summer, it does not make sense to increase to over the last 100 weeks. Skipper roof training can lead to overload.
  2. Feel free to set a realistic goal based on training and previous races. The goal can of course be adjusted in the weeks before, depending on how the training goes.
  3. Train at the pace you want to keep through the competition. If the goal is to run a half marathon in less than 2 hours, it may be okay to run intervals of 10-10.5km / h, which is then competitive speed. Interval drag often varies. It can be anything from 10 * 1000 meters, 5 * 2000 or 30 * 1 minute.
  4. Do not open too hard. 21.0975 meters is long, especially if you open too hard the first half. Try to hold back a bit in the beginning, then you can rather try to increase the speed the last 4-5km, which is a bit downhill.
  5. Enjoy the experience of running with thousands of others through the streets of Oslo. It will probably be heavy along the way, but definitely something to look back on with joy. Remember that pain is temporary, honor is eternal.

And if you have not yet signed up for this year's race, you know what you have to do!
